Gearing Up for the Big Holiday Marketing Push? Treat Your Website to Some ‘Fall Cleaning’ First
Summer is almost officially over, school’s back in and for many retail business owners there is a slight lull before the big holiday sales drive begins. This means that this is a great time to take a step back and do a little bit of business ‘fall-cleaning’ so that your company – and your business website – are in great shape for the biggest retail season of the year.
Reboot Your Website
Soon enough it will be time to get ready to make all those quick changes to your website to ensure it is engagingly in season, from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas and Hanukkah. Right now however you should take some time to make sure that the ‘behind the scenes’ basics are right. Here are some of the most important questions to ask yourself to help ensure that they are:
- Is your shopping cart software up to date?
- Is the checkout process truly user friendly?
- Should you add new payment functionality (ApplePay, Venmo etc.) to better serve your customers?
- How about that all important security software, is it up to date and doing its job?
- How fast (or slow) is your site loading these days and how does it look to those increasingly important mobile viewers?
Checking all of this now, and fixing and tweaking where necessary may very well save you a lot of hassle and heartache in the coming months.
Refresh Your Social Networks Too
Just as you will be checking your website basics this is a good time to do a little social network fall cleaning as well. Delve properly into your analytics and insights instead of just giving them the cursory glance you might often do. Just who is following you? Are you really reaching your target demographic? Which social networks seem to be giving you the best ROI? Are there any ‘dead’ profiles that seem to be drawing little engagement but sapping too much of your time?
Now is the time to decide where you are going to focus your holiday SMM efforts and it is unlikely that you will have the time to properly maintain a dozen different profiles. There is no rule that says you must be on every single social network out there so now may be a good time to cut back.
Check Your Finances
Tax time is still a long way off, but if you get your year to date finances in great shape now you’ll have a lot less to worry about. Gather receipts and update your cashflow sheets. At the same time take a look at your current outgoings. Are you missing obvious savings? Is Quickbooks still working for you or is it time to hire a real human accountant, and hire one now before they are all too busy with tax season to even return your phone call?
Review Your 2018 Start of Year Goals
Almost every business has goals at the start of the year, however they may have been documented. How is your business matching up to those goals you set at the beginning of 2018 right now? Given the market conditions right now are all of your goals still realistic? Is there something you missed that can be put right before the year ends? Now is a great time to decide and take whatever steps you need to in order to try and ensure that you will get as close to your (realistic) goals as possible before the ball drops on New Years.Koehler Home Decor is a wholesaler of home decor accessories and unique gifts.
